What is The Chopsticks Club?
The Club is a unique social club ideal for informal networking with like-minded Sinophiles. The Club encourages Chinese and foreign nationals to meet, make friends, advance business opportunities and enjoy good Chinese food on a regular basis.
Where is the Club based?
The Club is based in London and most of our events take place there. We do not have our own Clubhouse so usually meet in a restaurant or private venue.
What is the history of the Club?
The Chopsticks Club was started in 1994 by Durham Chinese graduate, Rupert Hoogewerf. The initial aim was simply to ensure that fellow graduates had a reason to meet up again on a regular basis and maintain their interest in China. Since that time, Theresa Booth and H-J Colston have developed the Club into its current format and with a membership of over 700 individuals.
How often does the Club meet?
The Club meets once a month, usually on a Tuesday. Usual cost for each event is £20 for paid up Members and £25 for non Members (includes food and a speaker and a 'pay as you go' bar).
Can I just come along to an event or do I have to join?
The Club welcomes new visitors and those just in London for a few days. Feel free to come along - but please confirm your attendance with us first to ensure that food and a place is available for you - and if you like what you see, you can sign up for Club membership. Please note, that if you tell us that you will be attending and then, for unforseen circumstances are unable to turn up at the last minute, without letting us know, we are obliged to pay the restaurant on your behalf. In these circumstances we will ask you to make a contribution.
How much does membership cost?
£35 per person per annum
£65 per couple
£20 for FULL time Students and Concessions
£280 Corporate (three members can attend)
