Chopsticks Club opens dialogue with HM Ambassador, Liu Xiaoming

The Club's networking event at the Royal Society in London on 19 October was a platform for openness and dialogue with the Chinese Ambassador. Attended by over 130 professionals from the Chinese and British business communities, the event was a huge success.
One of the Chinese guests who attended said how "we appreciate your great effort to promote understanding between China and the UK!" "Magnificent!" said a British guest who was unfamiliar with the Chopsticks Club.

Openness and discussion

Ambassador Liu's speech was illuminating, philosophical, often humorous and peppered with very interesting historical anecdotes. He was also very positive about the Club's work and its history.

The speech was followed by a half hour question and answer session. Topics included territorial disputes, recent Nobel Prize winner and exhibiting artist at the Tate Modern, Ai Wei Wei and how the UK, specifically China friends, could promote better understanding of China here in the UK. In all of his answers, the Ambassador was eloquent, measured, candid and he spoke in great depth on each subject.  

One of the sponsors said after the event that "all of my guests were extremely impressed with both the occasion and especially, the Ambassador who handled the questions well but more importantly provided an 'open' face on China which I believe is so important in challenging the standard China prejudices we frequently come up against."
