IMPROVE YOUR CHINESE and EARN MONEY - TANGSHAN NORMAL UNIVERSITY SEEKS ENGLISH TEACHERS
If you are thinking of teaching in China for a gap year (or longer) this is a great opportunity to work in a friendly campus with bright students. The University trains school teachers for the city and the region, the students are committed and will be thrilled to get to know you and talk English with a foreign teacher.
The salary is RMB 4,000 per month (which is generous and will cover everyday needs while still leaving a lot left over for travel and entertainment). The University will pay for your return flight, and provide accommodation on the campus. You would teach 16 periods per week (maximum). There will be two foreign English teachers.
If you're interested in improving your Chinese, there would be opportunies all the time, with your students, your colleagues, and, basically, with random people everywhere who are usually keen to chat with visitors. (Standard Mandarin is spoken there).
Tangshan is a wealthy, rather lively city about 2-3 hours coach ride from Beijing. The campus is located in the city, a short bus or cycle ride from the centre of town. There is a lot to do in the city itself, especially involving food! (all kinds of restaurants), but also sports, exhibitions and many, many markets. Outside the city, nearby attractions include the Qing mountain tombs and sections of the Ming Great Wall. As well as Beijing, Dalian, Qinhuangdao (including the "Old Dragon Head", where the Great Wall meets the sea at Shanhaiguan, and the Politburo's favoured bathing resort at Beidaihe), and the coast are within easy travelling distance.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss more, please feel free to contact Mr Gu Ling, a young teacher in the English department; on (86) 1358 292 0609 or (86) 1310 260 1060, or at guling88@hotmail.com Simon Milnes (Chopsticks Club member) has known Mr Gu for 7 years, has taught a couple of impromptu "classes" at the University, and cheered on the staff pingpong team! For more on Tangshan, etc, you're welcome to contact him too on simonmilnes@yahoo.co.uk
